Marek Zmysłowski is a Polish-born entrepreneur and executive, focused on online businesses in Frontier and Emerging Markets.
He co-founded HotelOnline.co – a Hospitality Technology Company, and Jumia Travel – Africa’s Biggest Hotel Booking Portal, with backing from Rocket Internet and Goldman Sachs. In 2014, he was chosen as one of the Ten Most Important People in Tech by IT News Africa Magazine. He is a Lead Mentor at Google’s Launchpad and World Bank’s XL Africa Program.

Before moving to Nigeria, where he has co-founded the “Amazon of Africa”, Zmysłowski was the founder of many innovative ventures in Eastern Europe. He was an early employee of a financial services company, resembling the one from Wolf of Wall Street. While building the first nationwide network of funeral services, he had to face the polish mafia. During his life in Africa, he built and invested in many online enterprises and was named One one of Top 10 Most Important People in African Tech. His businesses made him also some powerful enemies. The corrupted Nigerian police and judges in bizarre court proceedings made him a financial fraudster.
Thanks to prone to abuse by corrupted states Interpol, Zmysłowski became an international wanted fugitive, chased by Interpol the same way terrorists, rapists, and murderers are treated. Zmysłowski describes this and many other events and puts them in the context of African history and cultures, a continent he fell in love with.

The title of the book relates to chasing unicorns (in the startup world), so trying to build billion-dollar businesses, or at least chasing dreams to do that. "Black Unicorns" because a large part of my story happens in Africa. I would like for the cover to include my face (but not necessarily) , but I also would like some symbols relating to Africa/Startups/Technology in the background. Most books about Africa are about to desert/safari. Mine is about business/cities/airports in Africa, I want to change the narrative of Africa this way.
