A book cover for a physical book, 8x11.5. The cover should include: the name of the book ("A Guide to Better Movement"); its tagline ("Brain-Based Strategies to Move Better and Feel Better."); and the name of the author (Todd R. Hargrove)
The purpose of this book is to provide a resource to physical therapists, bodyworkers, personal trainers, instructors in yoga, pilates and martial arts, and anyone else interested in moving better and feeling better. The book explains the science of motor control and its relation to performance, pain and personal well being. It uses new and emerging neuroscience to explain how traditional therapies like yoga and martial arts work. It also provides unique exercises to reduce pain and improve coordination.
One of the main ideas in the book is that the brain has far more control over strength, speed, flexibility and pain that most people imagine. We move and feel in accordance with our self image. I would like the book cover to illustrate this idea by having a picture of a human head, similar to the ones below, with an explosion of images coming out. The images should be simple icons showing the person's ideas about movement: a person stretching, running, jumping, lifting weights, walking. I would also like some icons showing pain or injury. All the icons should show a matrix of connections between them, as in the pics below. There could perhaps we words floating as well, like “core strength”, “posture” and “bulging disc.”
The person in the picture should have non-specific gender (or look female.) I think all the pics below have a nice style but I prefer the ones with vibrant multi-colors, and more curvilinear and organic lines, as opposed to square corners and the feeling of a computer. Maybe a combo of the lines in the pic with the blue background and the front facing head, and the colors in the pic with the orange head.
For fonts and overall design, I like the Yoga Poses and Anatomy books, especially Yoga Poses. I would like the design to be clean and simple with white space. You can also go to my blog at bettermovement.org and website at rolfingseattlesite.com to get a general feel for the design styles that I like.
I am also looking for a side binding and back cover to go with the front cover, but I will make a decision on that after deciding on a design for the front cover.
