Dr. Cedric Masten hails from the State of Georgia. Although born in Albany, Georgia, Dr. Masten grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Masten’s passion for the teaching and learning process is evidenced by his 33 years of service in education. Dr. Masten has served as a teacher, department head, high school administrator, district level specialist for exceptional education, university grievance officer, and a core faculty member at Concordia University – Oregon. Dr. Masten is married to W.B. Burks, and they reside in Ellenwood, Georgia. Dr. Masten is excited to share his sophomore project – 100 Things My Mama Said…. “A Black Mother’s Quest to Keep her Kids Safe in a Racially Divided Society.” Dr. Masten’s first book, “A Broken Piece that Fell from the Whatnot Shelf,” was a major success and continues to reach landmark sales. Dr. Masten’s favorite pastimes include writing, experiencing new restaurants, attending weekly study, and spending time with his spouse. Dr. Masten is a Clark Atlanta University (CAU) alumni. Dr. Masten earned an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership and Exceptional Education, an M.A. in Behavior Disorders, and an undergraduate degree in Educational Psychology.

100 Things My Mama Said explores the knowledge and wisdom African American mothers share with their children to keep them safe from the police, the manipulation from others, and to develop "home training" that transfer to navigating society successfully. The book also creates a nostalgic memory relative to growing up as an African American child. Most importantly, the book will unpack and examine from a historical perspective the invaluable colloquial expressions that Black mothers use to strengthen and teach their children about life. Finally, 100 Things My Mama Said will define, examine, explore life lessons, and why lessons are passed from generation to generation.

( I am open and flexible to new ideas) I envision a drawing of an African American Woman in the center.... I would like the designer to infuse creatively some of the colloquial expression.
