I am really excited to be a small start-up business offering Feldenkrais Somatic Education. I have recently qualified as a Feldenkrais Practitioner and have made do with DIY business cards and website for the last couple of years. I want to portray a caring professional optimistic image, as well as one that suggests growth and change!
Feldenkrais is amazing. . . It is based on the fact that improving quality of action is possible for everyone, whatever their current movement ability or physical condition. It offers remarkable opportunities to people with chronic pain, stiffness, discomfort and bad habits of posture, to change what they do and how they do it, to feel more at ease, revitalized and effective in movement and thought.
My target market is broad: anyone who wants to learn what they do, how they do it, and be empowered to develop and change to find more effective, easeful ways of moving. I work with Cerebral Palsy children and adolescents, young women with fibromyalgia, MS sufferers, men and women of all ages with “bad backs, crook knees, stiff necks” and so on.
I will be advertising at a boutique cinema soon (a still image, yet to be designed), with a core demographic of upper middle class men and women in the 35-65 age group. I also want to distribute my information to Doctors and Allied Health Professionals.
Feldenkrais differs from other practices which emphasize strength and stretching, for example, Pilates, Physiotherapy or Yoga, in that the starting point in Feldenkrais is to develop new awareness of existing patterns of habitual muscular activity. We use gentle, specific movements and guided attention to help people become more aware of the body’s structure, and of unconscious habits of holding and moving that cause limitation and strain.
This process provides new sensory-motor information that enables the brain to re-organise and improve neuro-muscular connections and develop more effective patterns of co-ordination.
Feldenkrais offers two learning environments: individual Functional Integration sessions and gentle guided Awareness through Movement lessons, for groups. I offer FI from home and a Physiotherapy clinic, and teach ATM in a Community House, Women’s Health Centre, the Physio clinic and an Holistic Therapy Centre.
I am drawn to soft blues and strong ochres. You will find some examples of the styles that draw me at my website http://firstname.lastname@example.org and these links http://www.feldenkraisdublin.ie, http://www.yogafromtheheart.com.au, http://meditateinhobart.org/about-us,
I have been using the image of the inside of a nautilus shell to convey the “unfurl your Self” concept. This is a concept I would like in the design, but it doesn’t have to be represented by the nautilus. I will leave it up to you! Although my business name is Feldenkrais Hobart, with unfurl your Self as the tag line, the emphasis could be reversed, ie unfurl your Self (at) Feldenkrais Hobart.
It is a professional responsibility to use the registered trademark after the word Feldenkrais®.
