Our app is called "DataGlass for Access", and it allows users to view their MS Access databases on their iPhones & iPads. Users will transfer database files from their computer to read and query on the mobile device.
The target user will mostly be serious business/productivity types, so the design should not be frivolous or humorous. A sleek and modern appearance should help the app blend in with other top apps in the category ( http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/…nreId=6000 ).
1. Apple's icon design guidelines at http://developer.apple.com/iphone/l…mages.html should be adhered to.
2. A vector image (.svg or .ai) is preferred; otherwise, we'll need icons scaled to all the sizes listed at http://developer.apple.com/iphone/l…mages.html
3. The standard 3-cylinder database icon (e.g., http://www.777icons.com/libs/databa…icons.htm) should be a dominant part of the icon. I envision it having a glassy or translucent metallic sheen ("DataGlass").
4. The icon should be flexible enough for eventual variations to be made for other apps (e.g., "DataGlass for Oracle"), possibly just by adjusting the tint of the icon or background.
