'You Have A Visitor' is a company I'm starting. I have a sister with a disability, Kristin, and she lives in a different state with my parents, where we grew up. I want her to be able to visit me without my parents needing to figure out who takes off work to bring her, and without me needing to go back and forth to get her and bring her to where I’m living.
This company/program will involve a trusted companion (who wants to travel) that would travel with my sister, stay with her through security and on the plane, and bring her to me on the other side. Then the companion would be on their own in whatever city I'm living in, and would be at the airport to meet my sister at the end of the visit and bring to her back home.
Ultimately, the audience would be for families of individuals with disabilities who want their loved one to be able to travel, visit, and explore. I want my sister to have the same freedom I have and to be able to see the world like l've been fortunate enough to do. Right now, I’m just focusing on domestic but I want there to be an international component at some point.
I want inclusion in travel to be a normal part of travel for individuals with disabilities. This is also for the families - I want to be able to live wherever I want (however far away) and know that if I want to see my sister, it’s a possibility for her to come see me. If it helps, words that come to mind when I'm creating this are, Travel, Freedom, Inclusion, Explore, Safety, Secure, Connection. This program would shorten the distance between loved ones.
