There has been an initial concept produced to help you guys peer inside my head and see what MY initial thought of how this thing should look. However I am after your creative flair and interpretation of the brief below. http://www.kontrolcentral.com:2000/moneybox/
Breakdown of design Components: The total amount for the Winner of this contest who comes up with the best site design is $350.00. The total amount for the logo is $150.00.
The logo should include a TV in some form and include some reference to money, currency, stock market or wealth. The chosen font should be corporate yet relaxed and informal if that makes sense. We see this as a site for professionals who take time out to watch TV at their desk. The colors used for the initial concept are blue, light blue and green although these colors are not set in stone and we are open to suggestions. A design consideraton for the logo should be it's use in color and mono for future merchandising etc.
Top banner- The top banner area I expect will house the logo, a short description of the site and most of the house keeping elements including About, Contact and Help. There would also be a space for a half banner advertisement (234x60).
Premium Listing Box (not illustrated on concept)- At the top of each set of search results there will be an area dedicated to premium listings (up to 2 per search) similar to how Google has its sponsored links in a blue bg. This box needs to stand out without detracting from the other results or the other focal points of the page.
Search box - The search box is a very important component of the page. It needs to be clean, concise with a lot of space around the criteria selection box. The usability of the search function is still yet to be confirmed however there will be either links which dictate the search criteria or a drop down box listing search categories. The search box will also accommodate the fields for users to login to their account where they can access other tools.
Feature box (not illustrated on concept) - This should be located either above or under the search box. This will be an area where selected videos will be featured in a looped slideshow. There will be a thumbnail, a title and a short description for up to 5 featured video clips. There should also be a Previous and Next navigation functions to allow the user to control the java-script slideshow.
Search Results/Directory Listing - At this stage there will be a maximum of 10 results per page. The results should be separated by a divider or defined area/box. The height of each results region should be around 90pixels high. Each result will have a thumbnail which will be all the same pixel size. I estimate a size of 116wide x 82high (pixels) is a comfortable size which gives the user an idea of what the media presentation looks like. The heading for each listing needs to be 12pixels in size and bold. The description text should be also 12 not bold. The URL should be a full URL in about 10pixels size and should not be that prominent. There also needs to be a secondary link in way of a monitor or tv icon which can have text incorporated in it or just a graphic.
Advertising - It is also necessary for the design to allow for 2 or 3 standard advertising banners/skyscrapers somewhere under the search box.
Overall design: As you can see the concept so far has the site centered with a defined subtle gray background. There is no preference for the page to be centered or left justified. As I have explained the feel we are aiming for is corporate business yet relaxed and easy on the eye. Some words I would use to describe what we after: minimalistic, fresh, now, smart looking yet relaxed, not to sterile, opaque, flat, little or no shadows, clear, stylish.
