We are a privately owned fiber optic passive and active device manufacturer. We have been in business since the mid-90s and have a fairly large customer base. Our market share is good in Canada (where we are based), growing in the US and just starting out in Europe. Our current website has our product information and our current logo (http://www.fiberc.com). Once we select a new logo, we will re-design our entire website, so this is going to be key to our corporate look moving forward.
Our key differentiators are custom design and product innovation. We make many products that others make, but often add features not readily available from others. We also do many custom designed products to fulfill specific customer requirements. Our Chameleon system is somewhat unique and will be a big push in our future growth. We will probably be changing the name of that product line to ChameleonLink to tie it to our cornerstone product – GatorLink.
Once we have a new logo, we will take elements of that and re-tool the look of our product logos/names as well. Although this request is just for the company name logo, we suggest you consider how easily your design could be adapted for new product names/logos (We have GatorPatch, GatorLink and Chameleon for now).

We like things that are clean and simple - not so abstract that you need to explain it to someone.
We market to several different industries. Data Communications, Telecommunications, Security, Industrial and transit/transportation markets are key. Our targets tend to be Engineers and/or technicians or managers of technical design and installation projects. Although we want to support existing customers, we will be targeting new customers through social media and other campaigns and the first impression will be important.
Many of our target customers know our competitors very well and may or may not have heard of us. We have a compelling product story to tell and need a look to go along with it.
Relative to the current logo design, the puzzle piece is not meaningful and does not need to be included. Our colors are currently purple and black and can be changed, although they are somewhat unique and recognizable in our industry. We have several named products that have logos but nothing goes together. The current tag line "Connecting ideas" will probably be changed, so I would not integrate that into the design.
The logo will be used to re-design the logo for GatorPatch (current logo attached) and our newer products GatorLink and Chameleon (see more info here: http://fiberc.com/chameleon.php ). You can see more in the Products section of our website and in the Chameleon brochure (link on the site).
Logo can be as simple as just the name in a great font design or you can weave in fiber optic or other design elements. We encourage you to stay away from the all too common look of glowing fibers seen in many fiber optic company logos and websites. With our name being Fiber Connections, we think people get the fiber part pretty quickly.
We want to look experienced and professional but a little more design forward/creative than our competitors. We compete with some large, established companies like Corning Cable Systems, Transition Networks and Panduit as well as smaller companies like 10-10 (http://10-10.com) and Wirewerks (http://wirewerks.com).
