Digital Bridges is an initiative to create a model for sustained, community-led adoption and use of broadband through Milledgeville, GA. The community will identify local challenges and match them with the digital technologies to address them, whether they are in healthcare, education, government or other areas. The project will consist of two interdependent efforts:
1. Digital Bridges will establish the Knight Community Innovation Center, a high-profile, easily accessible facility, available to the community without charge. The facility will be a place for training, professional development and creative experimentation. A small-business incubation component will encourage technology-based entrepreneurial start-ups. Internet-based conferencing equipment will provide a resource for connecting to satellite locations at local churches, senior housing and local schools.
2. In the Community: The Knight Community Connect program will provide recognition to strategic GCSU faculty and K-12 teachers as well as citizens serving as community content resource leaders. The Knight Learning Leadership Recognition program will recognize GCSU graduate and undergraduate students who initiative projects in their major of study.
