Practical Cancer Guide
I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in April 2006. After I recovered from the shock of learning I had cancer, I had a lot of questions. My doctors could answer the technical questions I had about my treatments and side effects…but I typically left those doctors’ appointments with loads of other questions:
What is it like to get a chemo treatment? Will it hurt?
Am I going to look like a freak if my eyelashes fall out?
How the heck am I supposed to incorporate all of these doctors appointments, shots, and chemo and radiation treatments into my already busy life?
I didn’t really know anyone else that had been through cancer treatments, so I couldn’t turn to family and friends for answers. I found that most of the cancer information available on the internet was technical in nature - symptoms of different types of cancer, survival rates, courses of treatment, etc. It was difficult to find answers to the more hands-on, practical types of questions I had.
I progressed through my cancer treatments and am proud to say that I am now almost four years cancer-free! During the four years since my diagnosis, I have been contacted countless times by others that have been diagnosed with cancer. One of the scariest parts about cancer is having unanswered questions, so it is extremely rewarding when I can answer questions for others by sharing my experiences and knowledge.
Target audience:
Person newly diagnosed with cancer; tech-savvy; looking to connect with others who have been through similar experiences
Mission statement:
Practical Cancer Guide provides information, inspiration and resources to people diagnosed with cancer and to the family and friends that form their support networks. Because there are some questions your doctor can’t answer.
I'd like a logo for Practical Cancer Guide. Words that come to mind when I visualize the logo include "fresh" and "interactive". The logo should include the following:
- Name: Practical Cancer Guide
- Tagline: Learn from survivors. Get the answers. Fight your cancer.
The tagline should be smaller than the name.
The website will include static information about cancer as well as blog posts, forums and links to other resources and cancer charities.
