I need a new logo for a guitar lesson website with a large audience. I’d like to see designs that reflect the site’s nature with a distinctive image that people can’t help but click on because it looks so cool.
Guitar Noise is a well known and respected site for beginner and intermediate guitar players who want to get better at guitar and share their love of music with one another. We have a large and friendly community of members that are proud and protective of their community.
The site was redesigned recently, and now when you look at the home page (http://www.guitarnoise.com) you’ll see there are all sorts of things that attract your eye - except the logo. I want to change this by branding the site with something that catches the eye right away without spoiling the rest of the page. It should indicate what the site is all about so you know if you’re in the right place or not.
Guitar Noise has a lot of fantastic free content – but this is not always immediately apparent to first time visitors. I’m looking to put our strengths forward with a logo that attracts attention and is distinctive enough to be remembered. Fans of our site enjoy the lessons and claim they are the best they’ve ever tried. We have also been cited by the popular press (London's Metro, a free commuter magazine where we were voted the top online guitar tutorial site by their readership) as well as trade magazines (Acoustic Guitar Magazine chose us as a top online guitar tutorial site in their November 2008 issue). We're not one of those sites that anyone can post a lesson to - we have writers and editors and we review everything as carefully as a magazine would before going to press. To put it simply, we are serious about you having a good time.
It would be nice if the logo is something people would be proud to wear on a T-shirt or ball cap; but most importantly, this is a logo for our website and it has to be something that makes people want to click it. The ideal design is something that will be recognizable on and off the site.
In closing, the website galttech.com sums up the whole website pretty well and we'd like people to get the whole feeling of this paragraph from seeing our logo:
“Do you want to find free guitar lessons online? Thanks to the internet a lot of young musicians can now go online and find hundreds of choices when it comes to free guitar lessons. We checked out a lot of websites that offer free guitar lessons and I feel the best overall site is GuitarNoise.com. Their website not only offers lessons designed for all guitar players, they also offer a guitar forum, lyrics, reviews, articles, and links to other music categories and topics. Check out their absolute beginners guitar lesson and the bass for beginners (both of these lesson plans are thorough and challenging). I think the best free guitar lesson they offer is their easy songs lesson which is great for beginners. No matter what your musical tastes, guitarnoise.com will have some lesson to help you with your guitar playing. Be sure to also check out their lessons on tuning, chords, ear training, home recording, theory, and scales. Remember the most important thing about taking a guitar lesson is to have fun, if you don't enjoy the learning process then what's the point of jamming.”
- The address guitarnoise.com must be part of the design
- Includes the tagline “online to onstage”
- Should be able to edit the tagline in the source file in case I change my mind later
- Compliments the existing color scheme - I like blue and white
- Something that tells the first time visitor what the site is all about
- Something that looks good on a white background and a darker blue background. I can’t be entirely sure which background I’ll use until I choose a logo that will be part of the site’s long term identity.
- I believe in collaboration and will provide feedback to entrants
- No more than 3 colors
- Designs that don’t inspire fun
- Anything too abstract or complicated
- Non vector format
