- Hello. We’re the World's First Prison-based Coffee Company. - OUR MISSION Our entire business is built around our mission to up-skill and reduce prisoner re-offending. We know prisoners are 50% more likely to reoffend if they leave prison without skills and a job. And we definitely know that in speciality coffee, people need exceptional skills. We were approached by the Ministry of Justice to help address the state of reoffending through coffee. We chose to grab this opportunity with both hands; not only do we now run barista training academies across a growing number of prisons, we opened our roastery inside the walls of HMP the Mount. Beyond that we also operate a community training lab which allows us to deliver training for people who are in custody. Only 17% of ex-offenders manage to get a job within a year of release and this needs to change. As part of our mission to help offenders successfully reintegrate into society, we train them in professional roastery and barista skills. On release, we help our graduates find work, either in our own coffee shops, or within our network. OUR COFFEE In every part of our business we marry our mission with quality. We launch new seasonal coffees every month and they all have a story to tell about the smallholder farmers who produce them; from collectives working together to negotiate a fair price, to female-only growers challenging gender inequality. We partner with producers who are working to make a difference for themselves and their communities, just like we are doing with our own company mission. Our coffee comes from all over the world and regardless of the source we always ensure adherence to the strictest ethical principles. We launch up to 30 unique coffees over the course of the year and we prioritise working directly with the producer or a cooperative to ensure they get the best price possible, often significantly above the fair-trade prices many other coffee brands pay. Our store managers are true coffee connoisseurs and curate the offering based on the products we have available at any one time; This means that you’ll get a unique experience from store to store. All locations serve our Aylesbury house espresso blend year-around. For filter we have a seasonally changing rota of delicious single-origins - just ask your barista for recommendations. . In addition to our industrial-scale roastery at HMP The Mount we have 8 prison based coffee academies as well as a coffee school in Containerville London. The Redemption Roasters education & employment programme gives offenders and ex-offenders the opportunity to equip themselves for a career in hospitality. Our course focuses on speciality coffee skills as well as the soft skills needed for work and daily life. Our Education team supports every interested graduate “through the gate” and into their first interview either with Redemption or with one of our employment partners. Our London based training centre enables us to further our reach and support both male and female learners as well as young people ‘at risk of crime’. In partnership with the Forward Trust, we teach the same barista course as we do in the prisons and support these graduates to find employment in the same way once it is completed. We’re making some exciting moves in 2021… In addition to our current programmes, we’re just about to launch a technician training scheme within prisons. This programme is the first of its kind and will teach coffee machine maintenance and means that we can offer another path to employment, in addition to becoming a skilled barista. The Government’s Kickstart scheme has just granted us funding to provide 6 months of paid employment to 20 young people (aged 16-24) who are on Universal Credit. In partnership with the Forward Trust we’ll select candidates who will undergo accelerated barista training at our centre, which will lead directly into a role in one of our stores. The logo we're looking for in this design contest is for Coffee School. Coffee school is the culmination of RR education's training sector. It spans across all departments to deliver coffee training and brand standards to retail staff, wholesale clients, prison leavers/community graduates, and potentially customer classes in the future. Coffee school will provide progressive courses that range from those new to speciality coffee/RR standards through to advanced coffee enthusiasts. It will operate out of our London HQ, with a second site opening in London early next year. ----- We're mostly interested in wordmark and combination logos, but we're open to all ideas. The visual style must be in line with the main brand identity - and be able to sit alongside the Redemption Roasters brand logo. Please find attached some visual examples of our brand and also the Redemption Roasters logo to see and better understand our main brand identity. This is just for your visual reference and inspiration. You can also find some visual assets in the zip attachment "visual assets". Please feel free to use them or not for your design concept, this is totally up to you (we own the copyright on our assets). When we think to our brand identity, we can refer to those four keywords: KNOWLEDGEABLE Definition: intelligent and well informed. Synonyms: well informed, learned, well read, educated, erudite, scholarly, cultured, cultivated, enlightened, etc. SELF-ASSURED Definition: confident in one's own abilities or character. Synonyms: confident, assertive, authoritative, commanding, reliant, poised, etc. SINCERE Definition: free from pretense or deceit; proceeding from genuine feelings. Synonyms: heartfelt, wholesome, profound, deep, etc. UNIQUE Definition: being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else. Synonyms: distinctive, individual, special, idiosyncratic, etc. --------- IMPORTANT: Please note that we have a strict deadline for this design contest, with a quick turnaround, therefore the 'selecting a winner' stage will take max. 3 days.
