Rackrs
Formally http://AllStarTrades.com, we are getting ready to relaunch with new features, a new look and a new brand. We'll now be called Rackrs a reference to a "racker" which is someone who is able to collect extremely difficult autographs or rare sports cards, for example: "I can't believe you were able get that card, I've been looking for years! You are such a racker!" The new URL will eventually be http://Rackrs.com.
The site is a gathering place for those dedicated to authentic sports memorabilia. We have the largest user created gallery of sports autographs in the world, and it is growing more every day. In addition, we have a thriving marketplace of sports memorabilia for sell or trade between members. Soon we'll be listing card trading events, autograph signings, athlete appearances. We also recently launched a database of through the mail (TTM) addresses where you can send cards or other memorabilia to get signed by your favorite athlete.
So... everything sports memorabilia, with a focus on autographed memorabilia.
Sports memorabilia fanatics. Like sports fanatics, but obsessive about collecting. Keep in mind that the majority of us have been collecting memorabilia since we could walk, so being a racker is a huge complement and something to strive toward every single day.
People who are rackers are all about collecting, so the logo should make one think of collecting sports memorabilia. We were thinking of different ideas of how one might make a collecting themed logo, here are some ideas to build off of:
- Cards laid out in a row, that looks like a completed set
- Checkmarks, like if someone is checking off all the players from a team they are collecting
- A letterform where our name is made up of trading cards in a line
- Some other abstraction that exemplifies collecting... it is about completion, so having something in a set missing, or one last piece coming into place would make sense too.
The web site is going to have a modern feel - clean, smooth, a hint of vintage. Since it is a social site, has a large community, and is wiki based, it definitely has that "web 2.0" air about it. We definitely have a preference for letterform logos or emblems, like those attached. This is because 99% of the logos you see in sports are letterforms or emblems, so having a logo that reflects this popular style will make our association with the sports world much more obvious.
We'd like to use a sports-inspired color palette, which almost always is red, white and blue... see MLB, NBA, NFL, etc. But we would like to have a slightly darker, older looking hue. That way the site doesn't burn into our visitor's eyes. This palette is really close to what we were thinking to use on the site (except that the "blue" shade contains too much green), so if the logo worked well with this palette, that would be great:

The logo doesn't have to contain those exact colors.
We like bold serif fonts because they can have an assertive presence, but again feel free to deviate if you are inspired. Here is a nice font, for example:
