I am a private pilot who enjoys flying into Idaho's backcountry airstrips. The airstrips are very in very remote and mountainous parts of the state. They are all grass or gravel and only certain types of aircraft can use them. Therefore, they attract pilots who are into camping, fishing, hunting and - most of all flying! I enjoy being around these kinds of pilots and hearing their stories around the campfire. Many of them are true heros. It is nice to get away where most people can't go. It is stunningly beautiful and untouched by cell phones, computers and the modern world. I love it.
My target audience are pilots who use the Idaho backcountry airstrips. They are 99.5% male. I would say they are very conservative. Obviously, they have some money because they own a private plane. Probably 50% are retired. I would guess that most had (or have) their own business. They may have money, but they are thrifty. Most go to the backcountry to get away and camp. Many are into fishing and hunting. However, I think most go for the camaraderie and to be around like-minded pilots to share stories of past and present flying adventures. These airstrips are very dangerous so, I guess I'd say, generally, the target audience are a bunch of risk takers.
I'm looking for a colorful sticker that the backcountry pilots can put on either their plane or car. I want the sticker to embody the Johnson Creek Airstrip in Idaho. This is the most popular destination for fly-in camping. (However there are many more similar airstrips and I'd like to do a series of stickers that pilots can collect.) I would think it should be no bigger an 5" x 5" although it doesn't have to be square or rectangular. As I said above, my target customer is generally older men who enjoy flying their own private plane and being in the outdoors. Therefore, I was thinking the sticker should both embody Johnson Creek but have a retro, classic look to it that speaks to their memories of when they were younger. I figure this can be achieved through style, fonts and color choices. Classic luggage stickers capture the same kind emotional response I'm looking for. Also, I wold think the classic National Park posters would be a great inspiration. I have also provided photos, maps, and technical data about the airstrip. Obviously, please contact me if you have any questions. I have links to more information an examples but, they don't fit here.
