We would like to have a clean, scientific and professional look. The design should be compatible with bootstrap 3 type elements and should also be responsive (aka elements should be easily scalable and might need some repositioning depending on the screen size. We want to make sure we showcase certain elements on certain screen sizes to better capture marketshare etc. ) We recently redesigned our checkout system using industry proven best practices and standards. We want to establish ourselves as experts in skin care and cosmetics and have valuable content that they can get for free via an opt in opportunity. It also serves to direct consumers to the product page as part of the main navigation. We should avoid carousels at all cost as they dont work.
Celebrities is a good example of this. We need to spice up pages like but still keep it simple.

These pages are our distinctive competence. They are very effective in selling our products. We do not want them distracted and wandering all over the site….we need to have a one way funnel to opening their wallet to buy.

- Carousels / Content Rotators - Studies & Best Practices indicate that rotating content doesn’t work and tend to reduce conversion rates. If a hero image is going to be used in the home page design, it should focus on driving traffic to the products page via a single call to action.
- In general, lighter designs are preferred over darker ones. This also includes minimizing elements that have large amounts of white text on dark backgrounds.
- Less focus on "real life" photos and more focus on product images. Also, the featured product / best seller should focus on one product each.
We are looking at establishing an ongoing relationship with the designer to help with future design efforts and endeavors.
