SynapDx Corporation
SynapDx was founded in Jan. 2010 to develop an innovative blood-based diagnostic test to aid in earlier detection of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). We currently have 6 full-time employees. This opportunity will help us shape our brand identity as it is our first website build.
In the United States, 1 in 110 children will eventually be diagnosed with an ASD. Currently, the average age of diagnosis is 4.5 years, yet the average age of parental first concern is before age two. Currently, ASDs are diagnosed using a series of behavioral tests. SynapDx is developing blood-based approaches to help physicians more quickly identify those children most likely to have ASDs to enable earlier diagnosis and treatment. Earlier diagnosis and treatment are associated with better outcomes for these children and their families.
We are serious about doing good science and function in a relatively conservative space. As a group, we are serious and deliberate in our approach, yet also care deeply about helping physicians and families more efficiently navigate the path to diagnosis.
We do not yet have a product to market, but are instead focused on research. We want a website that conveys high quality professionalism and does not try to do too much since we are still very early in our company development. We will build out more in advance of product launch.
We do not yet have a product to market, but are instead focused on building our reputation among the scientific and medical communities. Both groups are known for being skeptical and conservative. As such, a clean and simple design that is easily navigable is key.
Secondary audiences include: potential investors (also noted for their conservatism), media, and families who are either concerned about their children's development or who already have a child diagnosed with an ASD. We would like to project the same image to each of these groups.

I would like to use the same design throughout the site for consistency, but I will explain the home page concept.
The following elements should be included in some way:
-links to the sub-pages: Home, Team, Science, News, Careers, Contact Us
-a dominant graphical/photo element (kids/families, science, etc.)
-company logo (see attached)
-space for text description of company
-space for dated press release headers and links
-horizontal contact information across bottom of page
http://www.synapdx.com - it is just a landing page with our logo as a placeholder.
http://www.7sbio.com is a good example of what we would like to achieve: a clean, simple layout that is easily navigable yet attractive.
http://www.goodstartgenetics.com is also clean and relatively simple: not too much text, interesting graphics. I feel like their home page has some distracting elements (the blue rectangular elements draw more attention than is warranted). Of the pages included here, I like this one least.
http://www.xdx.com/ - I like the general look of this page. Their technology approach is similar to ours - you will notice the squares that are evocative of the attached image of a "heat map". Our initial product relies on similar interpretation, so feel free to use this as a design inspiration.
http://www.americanwell.com/ - beautiful graphic elements; would it be possible to provide shifting graphics that incorporate visual and textual elements?
http://www.genomichealth.com/ - similar layout to the other options - but particularly like the repeated design reference to the logo used throughout the page in ways big and small.
