There is a part of all of us that wants to be seen. And there are people that simply want to see. They are our mothers, our fathers, our children, our siblings, our friends, our community. Every day the window closes for these human beings with genetically inherited retinal diseases. They search for answers helplessly. They leave doctor offices feeling alone. They think they are unseen. We exist to shatter this misperception.
At Perception, we give genetic blindness a way to be seen. That’s why we make it easy for these human beings to share their human story and leverage community into connections that can save their sight. By giving people the tools they need to capture and share their story far and wide, and connecting them to information, therapies, treatments, research and emotional support, we are bringing thousands of human beings who are losing their eyesight, to gather as a community around a common vision to see and be seen.
At its core, the website (http://www.perceptionconnects.com) serves two functions:
1. Cultivates community. This is user-generated via easy to use commenting (and comment liking). Technologically, we also support community by including:
Social sharing via FB and Twitter.
Vanity URLs for easy social sharing. Ex: http://www.perceptionconnects.com/yournamehere
2. Connects people to solutions. This is done by us as a company. We will do our best to connect people to three core solutions:
- Clinical trials
- Therapies (already commercialized)
- Information (ex: recommendations for genetic testing)
While genetically inherited blindness affects people across all demographics, socioeconomics, we want the site to be built for someone in their early to mid-30s who is tech savvy.
