We have a product that scans a customer’s web page for certain data elements and shows live reports on various aspects of same. What we need is a page that displays some of that data in interesting ways. When this project is complete we will likely work with the winning bidder for more pages throughout the site.
Design wise I’m looking for something clean with white background and fixed width (1024). I want the page to be cool and interactive as it will be updating itself in semi-real time. Colors for our company are dark blue but I’d like to see other colors used on the page as well (it needs to be interesting). At the end of the day, this needs to look high tech and very cool.
This project is as much about UI design as it is actual graphics. I need help figuring out how to lay all of this out and convey the information. Feel free to make layout suggestions based on the content!
Looking at the picture I took of our whiteboarding session (main.jpg) and starting from the very top lets go over the elements we need on this page. On the left will 3 be menu elements (Home, Reports, Alerts). On the right there should be an account and logout links.
Next we have a map view that spans the width of the page. This is a heat map for where our users data is coming from. I want something here that looks cool and maybe even has an overlay that shows daylight vs nighttime as it go across the map over time.
On the bottom left hand corner of the map (where you see APL) I want an overlay that has the current total page latency which will be a number from 0 to 9999 ms.
On the bottom right hand corner of the map I want the current time).
Below the map, I want 2 elements that show our scanners progress. To the left, the first one will be labeled ‘Lab’ and the second below it ‘Script’. To the right of the label is a line with some dot or vertical line to show when the scanner for that system ran. Then width of the dot or line denotes how long the scanner was running. The line is a function of time. To the right of the line we will display the actual datetime of the last scan that was run. Lastly, to the right of that there is a button to have it scan now.
Next we have two boxes. Inside the left box we need 3 numbers in Red, Yellow, Green. There should be an ‘accept all’ icon or button that appears when you mouse over it for each number. Clicking on the accept all should bring up a small confirmation dialog. The words above the box should say ‘Insecure’.
The second box should be similar but have ‘Script’ above it.
After that we have the ‘tag’ area which I have sketched out as (TagGraph.jpg). The tags area has a multi part graph with a bar chart underneath. Vertical is number of tags and horizontal is time.
Beneath that we have an area with alerts. There are 6 types of alerts that we need icons for are
Secure / Insecure
On each alert line there should be an ‘accept’ icon and a ‘forward’ icon for each alert. This would only show up if you mouse’d over it.
There should be a page footer that has the standard links and basically bookends the bottom of the page.
