Book cover design for a novel in a magical realism genre.

The authors briefly described the location from the book, and stated they would like a treehouse with lanterns, with a spark of magic. I read parts of the book to better understand the general mood/ambience and to get the description of the location.

Normally, we start with an interview where I ask authors questions about their vision, and some background of the story (which remains confidential of course). This is to better understand the general vibe of the particular story, so that I can create a cover that evokes certain emotions, represents the locations and protagonists and so forth.

The process is fairly simple. After the interview, I explain from a professional's point of view what may or may not work.

Then comes a sketch, and the digital creation of the cover.

Throughout the process, I will show progress images/snippets so that the authors can confirm is the design going in the right direction.
